Yesterday I went to the Methodist church for a lunchin thing that they do every two weeks they had a guest speaker this time. The speaker was Keith Becker the brother of a Kearney kid who was killed in a drunk driving accedent last year. He told us the story of his brother. What happened was his brother used his ID to purchase alcohol and him and his friends went to a party and drank. At about 2 am Todd and two of his friends were speeding down the streets of Kearney when his friend hit a parked car on the side of the street at about 60 mph. Todd was killed and the other two were badly injured. Keith blames himself for what happened because he gave Todd his ID to purchase the alcohol that they drank and he thinks that if he didn't do that then this may have never happened. His speech was very heart felt you could see the emotion on his face when he gave it. He is a really good speaker he really got you into the story of his brother and the choices that were made. There was about 40 people in attendance and not one of them made as much as a peep during the whole thing some people were in tears after hearing the story of what him and his family have had to go through in the last year just because a few young people made some really bad decisions. Keith was going down the wrong path too and he said that he is lucky that nothing like that has happened to him. He now has steightened his life out. And has stopped drinking completely.

Husker Football
I am a big husker fan just like many other Nebraskans. I count down the days until football season begings and I am part of the group who cheers, curses, and almost dies of a heart attack every week that they play. That's what true fans do. What I don't like about husker football is how high it ranks on peoples priority list. Take my uncle for example my aunt was in the hospital for two days with a kidney infection and she was finally relased on a saturday but he wouldn't come and pick her up until the game was over. So she had to sit and wait for almost five hours before she could finally go home. What could be more important picking your wife up from the hospital and only missing maybe a quarter of the game. Instead he was an ass and stayed home so that he didn't miss one second. If it were me my wife wouldn't be at the hospital alone I would be there with her. And if I cared that much about the game, the hospital has plenty of TV's that would have it on and there is always the radio. I have done things I shouldn't in order to watch the game. Like when Nebraska played Oklahoma in 2001 and it was a #1 vs.#2 match up. I told my boss at Burger King that I couldn't come in because I had to take the ACT. It was an awsome game and Eric Crouch had an unbelieveable flee flicker pass for a touchdown that is going to be in husker highlight reels forever. It was worth missing out on my $30 that I would have made that afternoon at BK. I would never make my wife wait at the hospital just so that I could watch a game on TV.
Blogger stress
I think that I have finally figured out this blog thing. It has taken me long enough. It has been a long and frusterating road but I guess that it is better then writting a whole bunch of papers or doing a whole bunch of speeches. I am just not one for technology. I understand how important it is to have the technology that we have today. It makes things run a lot smoother but it doesn't mean that I like it. I guess that I will start liking the more I understand it and use it. Like this whole blog thing. I think it is the reason that I let myself get behind in this class because I just got frusterated and gave up. Oh well no that I understand it more the next two credits should run more smoothly. When I signed up for this class I thought that it was going to be a bunch of speaking but really there is little of that and more of things like this. Which is okay I need to get better with technology and the internet and I'm already a good public speaker. I feel just as comforable in front of a crowd of 200 as I do with a crowd of 2. I think that all stems from my time in sports and all of the plays that I've done. This blog thing is okay and I look forward to doing it more.

The speeker will be Keith Becker he is the brother of Todd Becker a 17 year old Kearney boy who was killed by a drunk driver last year. Online Research Exploration
I just went to the websites suggested for our online research portion of the class. I learner way more about search engines in this portion then I have ever known. I wish that I would have done this assignment earlier in the semester it would have really helped me out in my other classes. Especially my english class where I had to write an 8 page term paper. The nlc.state site was very interesting. It went a lot more indepth on some of the state information then google would have. I don't know if any other state has a site like this but if they do I would like to find it so that I can have it for futre assignment I may have to do about a certain subject. Then I went on to google search and I searched some of the government sites. I searched the one that dealt with capitol punishment. It had all of the statistics of people on death row and the ones who have been exicuted. Last year we exicuted 60 people nation wide that is one more then 2004. It was 59 males and one female who was exicuted last year nation wide. The sited showed that eventhougt more Blacks are incarcerated then Whites. Whites make up the majority of the death row population. It was a pretty interesting site that would have helped with my capitol punishment term paper. This was a very educational experience.
Republican Debate
I just recently watched the Republican Governor debate. It was held in Lincoln and it was on public television. The three men were Tom Osborne, Dave Heineman, and Dave Nabidy. They discussed many issues concerning the state, ground water, the economy, and education were the three major issues. They all seemed to have a good plan of what they wanted to do. The only problem I think was that they didn't have enough time to talk about what they truely believed in. I personally think that Governor Heineman won that debate. For one thing he is the incomvent governor and he has already started up many programs to expand the amount of jobs in the state and he said that he would never close down the rural country schools which is a big deal for a lot of family's especially in the western part of the state. All of the men are pro-life when it comes to abortion. However I think that Gov.Heineman should win the election for various reasons for instance he knows the job way better then the other two men. I know that he has only been governor for less then two years but he was the Lt.Governor for many years before that. Plus the other two men have limited if no political backround. Dave Nabidy is just a millionare businessman form Omaha I know that our state will do better econmically if he's elected but Gov.Heineman has a program in now that will expand the number of jobs in the state by 50,000 in the next ten year. Also he is the only one who can see that throught the ten years since he can be re-elected after this term and serve a total of 10 years in office. Tom Osborne is a football coach. Sure he spent 6 years in congress and he did a fine job of it but he's old and congressmen don't really have a lot of responsibility anyway they are just one of over 300 votes on an issue. That was a good job for him so that he can look like he's doing something politically but really just be another number. If he's elected I think that it will just show that Husker football rules the land even more then it does now. I'm sure that he would be a good Governor but the reason he would be elected is because of who he is not what he is.
Speaking Event I Plan to Attend
I don't know if I am doing this blog thing right but I can't seem to get a blog posted any other way then this. I plan on attending the Gibbon City Council meeting on March 13. They are going to be discussing issues that appeal to my dad and other people who live in the community. On the agenda is water allowence, public beatification, and a few other things that concern the communty as a whole. My dad and a few other community member are really fed up with the way that the city council and the mayor are running things and how they only look out for their own interests and not anybody else's. That is one of the reason's I'm glad I live in Kearney now. It should be a fun event people get into really heated arguments I can't wait.
